Jurgen Klopp said he hasn't changed his opinions over not wanting a European Super League to take place.

Liverpool face Leeds on Monday night on the back of the news that the clubs owners Fenway Sports Group, have agreed to take part in the Super League with eleven other teams across Europe.

Back in 2019, the Liverpool manager said: 'I hope this Super League will never take place.'

Ahead of Liverpool's game at Elland Road, Klopp said his opinions 'didn't change' and 'understands' why their supporters are angry.

He said:  'My opinions didn't change. I heard first time about it yesterday and when you try and prepare for a very difficult game like Leeds United and then so far we got some information not a lot to be honest - most of the things you can read.

'It's a tough one people are not happy with that, I can understand that but I can't say a lot about it to be honest. We were not involved in any processes, me nor the players we didn't know about it. We'll have to wait and see how it develops.

'I'm 53 years old since I was first a professional, the Champions League was there. As a manager it was my aim to coach a team there.

'I like the Champions League, the competitive factor of football. I like the fact that West Ham might play Champions League next year. I don't want them too because we want to do that. But they have a chance like that.

'What can I say: Liverpool is much more than some decisions and the most important things in football is the supporters and the teams and we have to make sure nothing comes between them.

'I heard we put banners down at Anfield but the players didn't do anything wrong. We didn't win all of the games but we want everything.

'We want to qualify for the Champions League next year. Other people using our song against us, I don't like that, nobody wants to be alone in these moments.

'We have to sort it ourselves, it's nothing to do with football, nothing to do with the relationship with the fans and the team. The boys did nothing wrong, I want to make sure everyone knows that.'

'I know some things will change in the future, some things have to change for sure. Where the power is, that's not right, UEFA can't just decide things and FIFA as well. FIFA wants a Club World Cup when it's just about money. Things will change, somethings have to change. What I can't understand is the competitiveness. We want to be there (CL) but be there like anyone else.'

Klopp also revealed that warm-up shirts were placed inside the Liverpool dressing room.

Leeds players warmed up wearing the shirts which read 'football is for the fans' on the back and 'Champions League - earn it' on the front.

The German manager sarcastically responded: 'If it was a Leeds person who put it in there, thank you very much.
