L’Equipe: Pogba out for three weeks with thigh injury as World Cup hopes falter

L’Équipe report this afternoon that Paul Pogba’s hopes of making the France World Cup squad are all but over as the midfielder picked up another injury, this time a thigh issue that will keep him out of action for the next three weeks.

Having been sidelined for the last half a year due to his recurring knee problems, the surgery he underwent back in September revived the possibility of making the squad list.

His latest fitness issue means he is all but out for the tournament, not least given that Deschamps himself has indicated he will only call up players who are match-fit in time for the opening game, against Australia on November 22 – in a little over three weeks’ time.

Those within the France coaching staff are pessimistic over Pogba’s chances of being in the squad – which is announced on November 9 – with the Juventus man all but set to join N’Golo Kanté on the absentee list.
