Leipzig chief hints they will battle Man Utd for wonderkid Haaland

RB Leipzig's sporting director has dropped a hint that they will try to sign Manchester United target Erling Haaland in the summer.

Haaland has emerged as one of the most coveted young players in Europe after a blistering start to the campaign that has seen the 19-year-old score 26 goals in 18 appearances.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to be keen on bringing his compatriot to Old Trafford.

But the relationship between his current club Red Bull Salzburg and Leipzig means the latter could steal a march on any rivals for his signature.

Other players who have gone on to make their names in the Premier League — like Sadio Mane and Naby Keita — have followed the same path.

And when he was asked about a possible move at the end of the campaign, Leipzig chief Markus Krosche seemed to suggest it was possible.

Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Krosche said: 'The boy is a very good player.

'Both in the league and in the Champions League, he does an exceptionally good job.

'Of course, we are already looking around for the summer.'

Bild have also reported that Haaland's deal could include a release clause worth as little as £25.7million for the summer.
