Spain boss Luis Enrique has revealed how impressed he was with Sergio Ramos after taking charge of La Roja.

Ramos is the captain of the Spanish national team and he remained an integral part of the former Barcelona coach's plans during his first tenure in charge.

"My relationship with Ramos is very good, as with 99.9 per cent of the players," Luis Enrique said in a Q&A.

"Sergio is the captain. I only knew him from references and from having played against him.

"When I met him, I was pleasantly surprised; there is a reason why he holds [Spain's] record for international appearances.

"I was surprised by his leadership skills and personal qualities."

The postponement of Euro 2020 to 2021 will provide some players with a new opportunity to be included in the 23-man squad, Luis Enrique explained.

"The change of date will affect the young players because they'll have more time," he noted.

"My desire is to win the European Championship and I see Spain as being capable of doing that.

"There are positive things about the postponement of the European Championship because we will have more time to prepare and the young players will be able to develop more."

Adama Traore has been linked with a call-up for Spain and Luis Enrique has said that they are tracking his performances with Wolves.

"We have known him very well for many years," Luis Enrique stated.

"When we were at Barcelona, he was in our plans.

"He has evolved a lot. He's a very interesting player.

"We are delighted with his performances."
