Mac Allister's dad speaks out on midfielder's future amid LaLiga interest

Carlos Mac Allister, father of Liverpool star Alexis, has given an update on the midfielder's future at Anfield.

Mac Allister, 26, has shone for the Reds over the past two years since joining from Brighton for an initial £35million fee in 2023, adding 24 goal contributions in 90 matches.

The Argentine, who won the World Cup in 2022, has been integral for Arne Slot's side this season, playing 30 of 31 Premier League games as they close in on the Premier League title.

However, Mac Allister's good form has seen him linked with major clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid, which comes after the 26-year-old sent social media into a frenzy in December when he admitted he could see himself in Spain one day.

When asked by AS about a potential future in LaLiga, Mac Allister had replied: 'Yes, why not?

'It's a country I like a lot and I've visited it several times, and, above all, because of the language and the culture, it's very similar to Argentina. I would definitely like to play in Spain one day.

'But right now, I'm very comfortable at Liverpool and I don't think about what might happen in the future.'

And his father has now spoken out on those LaLiga links and poured cold water on the rumours.

'For now, I don't think so (leaving Liverpool),' he told Picado TV, an Argentine channel. Time will tell. Alexis is very happy where he is. He lives in Manchester, and on the block where he lives is Robertson, Gomez, and four blocks away is Licha (Lisandro) Martinez.

'Alexis speaks English well, understands the rules of the game, and converses with people.

'I think it's been the best thing he's had, and that's why the adaptation was easier.'

Carlos, a former Boca Juniors and Argentina star who acts at Alexis' representative, also went onto recount his first meeting with former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ahead of Mac Allister's arrival two years ago.

It came after he had shone during the previous three-and-a-half seasons at Brighton, with the initial £35m fee - which came courtesy of a release clause - looking like an absolute bargain.

'The first meeting was with me to explain what he saw in Alexis and why he wanted him,' Carlos added. 'We had a very nice conversation there.

'When we were talking in that first meeting, I don't speak English, and there was a translator who works at the club. He asked (sic) me what I saw after (Liverpool) losing 5-2 to Real Madrid (in February 2023), and I told him they had a major problem because the players have to understand that you mark the way you do it.

'The translator saw me and told me I couldn't tell him that, and I told him to tell him because I was going to explain it to him.

'Then I told him in English, and Klopp asked me what I meant. I told him to get on top of them, grab them, push them, hug them, and that you can't mark from two metres away, which is why they conceded five goals.'

Carlos continued: 'He looked at me and told me I was right, that he was going to stick with that definition. That's when we began to build a relationship with him.

'We met again, and he called Alexis to tell him he was happy, and so much so that he publicly acknowledged what Alexis is.'

Mac Allister, who is under contract until 2028 and has also won 38 caps for Argentina, is back in action on Sunday when Liverpool host West Ham, with the Reds 11 points clear of Arsenal with seven games to go.
