Madrid hobble through 2019: six out in under three weeks

  /  autty

Since the turn of the year, Los Blancos have lost Bale, Kroos, Courtois, Vallejo, Benzema and now Keylor Navas to injury.

Real Madrid started off the year with only a fresh injury to Marcos Llorente and in just under three weeks have seen a further six players befall the same fate, the latest being Keylor Navas ahead of their game against Sevilla on Saturday.

Defence

Los Blancos have been weakened in every department. Both goalkeepers, Thibaut Courtois (hip) on 9 January and now Keylor (groin), and on the left of defence, with Jesús Vallejo (who has only played 180 minutes so far this season) and Javi Sánchez, who alternates between the first-team squad and Castilla.

Midfield and attack

In midfield they have lost Marcos Llorente to a muscle injury, followed shortly after by Toni Kroos, with a similar problem. Offensively, Karim Benzema has been struggling with a broken finger (but has been cleared fit to play against Sevilla), while Gareth Bale is out with a calf injury.

To add to the long list above, from 2018 Asensio has been out since the Club World Cup and Mariano, with an irritation to his sciatic nerve, since 31 December.
