Manchester City are set to be hit with a transfer ban for two windows for breaching regulations on the transfer of minors following a long-term probe from FIFA.

The reigning Premier League champions will receive a similar ban that was handed to Chelsea last month after they breached transfer rules and were fined 510,000 Swiss Francs (£391,260) for a similar offence.

According to The Sun, FIFA are poised to hand City the ban in the next few days following the investigation from football's governing body.

A FIFA insider told the Sun: 'We have been investigating City as part of a long-term investigation.

'We expect there will be an announcement on City, very similar to the one we made on Chelsea, in the next week or two. It is coming very soon.'

It might not end there for City who  could expect more fines after it emerged that FIFA are reportedly preparing another probe into allegations over funding.

The ban that is expected to come in the next couple of days which will scupper Pep Guardiola's plans to bring in more talent by next season.

The Spanish boss has been hoping to bring in a new defender and striker in a £150million spending spree with Leicester left back Ben Chilwell being linked with a move.

The Etihad outfit were also looking to find a long-term replacement for Fernandinho this summer.

Manchester City declined to comment on initial reports in the Sun.
