Mourinho 'held 4-HOUR talks with Spurs players after he was sacked on Monday'

Jose Mourinho stayed at Tottenham's training ground for four hours after he was sacked on Monday as he told some 'home truths' to the squad, according to reports.

The Portuguese was sacked after 17 months in charge, amid a difficult period where a poor run of results saw Spurs exit the Europa League, FA Cup and drop out of the battle for the top-four.

But The Telegraph are now reporting that when Mourinho was collecting his belongings after being dismissed on Monday, he told some home truths to his players in discussions with the first-team that lasted over four hours.

The report details that Mourinho offered to leave immediately or pack up his office, after being sacked following two-hour talks with the board about his position.

The 58-year-old was changed and ready to take training before he learned of the decision that would cost him his job.

It is understood that his relationship with some players hit 'rock bottom' after their shock Europa League exit to Dinamo Zagreb last month, where they let a two-goal first-leg lead slip.

Mourinho had fallen out with some players during his time, most notably left back Danny Rose in a series of conversations which were aired as part of the club's All or Nothing documentary on Amazon Prime.

He also froze out playmaker Dele Alli this season, who has barely played in the Premier League after being hauled off at half-time during their opening-day defeat against Everton.

However, with Ryan Mason now in charge on a caretaker basis until the end of the season, the players now have a clean slate.

They responded to the new man in charge well on Wednesday as they came from behind to beat Southampton in the Premier League.

Spurs have their chance to win a trophy for the first time in 13 years when they take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday at Wembley.
