Rio Ferdinand says Man Utd don't need make a move for Coutinho this summer

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United do not need to make a move for Barcelona outcast Philippe Coutinho this summer, with the Englishman heaping praise on Bruno Fernandes.

A host of Premier League clubs are eyeing up Coutinho with the Brazilian seemingly unwanted in Catalonia. It also looks unlikely that his loan club, Bayern Munich, will take up their option of signing the playmaker on a permanent deal.

Coutinho has failed to deliver on the £145m fee that Barcelona shelled out for him in January 2018 and the former Liverpool man looks likely to be going out on loan once more next season.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with the 27-year-old. However, Ferdinand does not believe Coutinho would improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

'At Liverpool he was an amazing player, but since he left Liverpool he hasn't really done it yet,' he said during a Q and A session.

'He struggled at Barcelona, struggled to fit in there and then he hasn't done amazingly well at Bayern. I think he is a great player, a huge talent, I think he needs saving.

'Coming into the Premier League to the right team would be a saviour for him - he needs that. I would have said Man United before Bruno Fernandes turned up, but not now.'

Ferdinand went on to stress that Spurs would be an ideal destination for the out-of-form star, before adding that the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min would feed off the Brazilian's service.

However, a move to north London looks unlikely, with reports that Coutinho is 'outraged' by the behaviour of Daniel Levy after a deal to sign the Brazilian had been agreed before the Spurs chief pulled the plug on the deal.
