Spain are planning to launch a bid for Euro 2028 and a meeting to discuss it was held by Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez, FIFA president Gianni Infantino and Spanish federation chief Luis Rubiales in Madrid.

The country has not held a major international football tournament since the World Cup in 1982 and are considering also a joint bid with Portugal.

Spain did have hopes for the World Cup in 2030 but they have been put off with so many countries eyeing up the possibility. Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay have already put forward their candidature as a trio while so has Morocco.

Spain will have matches during 2020 with San Mames one of the venues. The 2026 World Cup will be in Canada, USA and Mexico while Euro 2024 will go to either Germany or Turkey with the winner decided on September 27th.
