Thiago Silva has apologised for his strop at the end of Chelsea's win at Luton in which he brushed away a cameraman.

The Brazilian defender was visibly unhappy at the final whistle after Chelsea almost threw away a commanding 3-0 lead to eventually win 3-2 at Kenilworth Road.

Silva wasn't happy a cameraman for broadcaster TNT Sports was in his vicinity, waving it away as he stood in the middle of the pitch.

He was then filmed in conversation with team-mate Enzo Fernandez, with captain Conor Gallagher within earshot of them.

The 39-year-old was unhappy after strikes by Luton's Ross Barkley and Elijah Adebayo in the final 10 minutes left Chelsea hanging on after Cole Palmer's earlier double either side of a goal by Noni Madueke put them in firm control.

Silva felt the need to apologise for his behaviour in an Instagram message on Saturday night, referencing the disappointment of Chelsea's 2-1 loss at Wolves on Christmas Eve.

'Every professional athlete will always be pushing themselves harder and thinking they can do better,' he wrote.

'In a competitive league, it's the details that secure three points. I just didn't want to spend New Year's like I did Christmas. Sorry.'

Silva did have a smile on his face, however, as he applauded the Chelsea fans who made the trip to Luton and posed for photographs.

He later wrote in another Instagram post: 'But after seeing my kids smiling, I was happy too! That's something no one shows.'

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino saw Silva's emotions as a positive thing.

'Thiago is like this.' He told TNT Sports. 'He is always moaning and never happy – but that is good.

'He is 39 years old and still playing. I think sometimes we are there on the pitch but sometimes it was the small details.

'You want to show that you want to help the team and your emotion is there.'

'It is amazing, 39 years old and still playing like a 20-year-old,' Pochettino later told BBC Sport. 'He brings his experience to the team and he is doing really well.'

The win at Luton made it back-to-back victories for Chelsea after they defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues sit 10th in the Premier League table, some 12 points off the top four.
