Former French and Manchester United player Patrice Evra has been handed with a 12 month suspended prison sentence after the 43-year-old was found guilty of abandoning his family.
The Manchester United legend is alleged to owe €969,000 (£813,640) in unpaid alimony after abandoning his ex-wife Sandra Evra and their two children between May 1, 2021 and September 28, 2023.
His sentence was confirmed by the Nanterre prosecutor's office, Le Parisien claim.
Speaking on behalf of Sandra, lawyer Nathalie Dubois told Le Parisien: 'I hope that, thanks to this decision, Patrice Evra will finally understand that he is not above the law and that you cannot abandon your wife and children overnight.
Amidst all of the news and controversy here is a look back at Evra's relationship with Sandra and how they went from childhood sweethearts to building a family and now to this.
Who is Sandra Evra?
Sandra Evra is the ex-wife of former French footballer Patrice Evra.
The pair were in relationship for over 25 years, after they first met in high school, quickly becoming one another's childhood sweethearts and entering into a relationship.
The pair made their relationship permanent back in 2007 by tying the knot on July 7.
Do they have children?
Yes they do, the pair welcomed two children during their marriage. Sandra gave birth to a boy named Lenny and a girl named Moana.
Cheating Scandal
Their relationship was not all plain sailing however. In 2013, it was reported that the French man was unfaithful to Sandra with a Playboy twin.
In a Sun article, it is reported that the married man pursued Playboy model Carla Howe for three months, before bedding her in his Paris hotel.
Howe revealed to the sun that Evra never let on that he was married or had a family.
Divorce
Divorce proceedings were initiated by the now-retired footballer in 2020, however, they remain uncompleted to this day.
Reports of a divorce between the pair came to light when Evra was captured kissing Danish model Margaux Alexandra back in July 2020, just five months after he filed for divorce from Sandra.
Evra and Alexandra have since gone on to getting engaged and share two young children together.
A son Lilas, and they have recently welcomed their second, a daughter.
Sandra was said to be heartbroken over Evra's abandonment and new relationship, reportedly learning of his relation with Alexandra through social media.
She told The Sun: 'That was the worst day of my life. I was devastated, distraught. I have been left paying all my credit cards and the Netflix bill. It has taken me a long time to realise what he's like... he has turned into a rat.'
Sandra also revealed to the publication that she had not seen Evra since January 2020, after he told her he was traveling to London for a '15-day work trip'. He then officially filed for a shock divorce that left her stunned on March 4.
