Antoine Griezmann’s wage demands priced PSG out of summer move

With a release clause of under €25m this summer, Antoine Griezmann (32) was highly coveted during the transfer window, notably in Saudi Arabia. However, according to L’Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain also sounded out a deal, but the France international’s wage demands put pay to any chances of a move.

Ultimately, Griezmann remained at Atletico Madrid this summer. The Frenchman repeatedly batted off approaches from the Saudi top flight. The last offer from the Gulf State was worth a reported €50m per season, however, it wasn’t enough to lure him away from the Wanda Metropolitano.

According to L’Équipe, PSG also attempted to pull off a move. Hearing about the low release clause, Les Parisiens made enquiries as the to feasibility of the deal. However, the France international’s salary was an issue. The hierarchy at the club, who had just got Lionel Messi and Neymar off their wage bill, didn’t foresee adding another big-salary player into their squad. Griezmann’s move to the Parc des Princes, therefore, never took form.
