Bamford reveals interpreter Clavijo warns players if Bielsa is 'on a mad one'

Patrick Bamford has divulged how Marcelo Bielsa's translator Andres Clavijo warns the players when the Leeds boss is 'on a mad one' before meetings.

Bielsa has only spoken his native Spanish in public since taking over as Leeds boss in 2018 and continues to use trusted interpreter Clavijo by his side for interviews.

And striker Bamford, who is Leeds' top scorer this season with 15 goals in the Premier League, has now revealed a little bit about Clavijo, describing him as a 'proper little geezer!' when talking on Redknapp's Big Night Out on Sky One.

'To be honest I've never seen him (Bielsa) hammer someone individually,' Bamford said.

'We'll have individual meetings and he'll tell you where you're going wrong but he won't absolutely batter you.

'When we played Arsenal away at half-time, he came in and he was fuming. He shouted, doing it all in Spanish, and then the translator has to translate it...'

Bamford then goes on to describe Clavijo, detailing he warns the players if Bielsa is in a particularly fiery mood.

'He's a proper little geezer you know! He's from London, he's a good guy,' Bamford added.

'He does the individual meetings for the translation as well and if you're walking in there he'll be like "you've got it today, he's on a mad one!"'

Leeds next travel to face Burnley at Turf Moor as they look to finish in the top-half of the table on their return to the Premier League this season.
