Cazorla and the substitutes lead Villarreal to victory

Villarreal scored two late goals to earn a 2-0 victory over Real Valladolid, with the substitutions made by Javi Calleja proving very effective.

Although Villarreal dominated for most of the match and were unlucky not to go ahead in the first half when Gerard Moreno was judged to have committed a foul before turning in a rebound, they almost went behind at the start of the second period.

Sandro Ramirez struck the post in the third minute after the restart, scaring the Yellow Submarine.

Before long, Javi Calleja made some changes and one of his substitutes Javi Ontiveros won a 78th minute penalty against Mohammed Salisu, that Santi Cazorla emphatically converted.

Then, in the 89th minute, two of the substitutes combined as Samuel Chukwueze set up Ontiveros for a header past Jordi Masip.

Karl Toko Ekambi, the other Villarreal substitution, was also active when he came on and had a few chances.

In the end, Villarreal are content with a 2-0 victory and with another three-point haul.
