Is the midfield of Modric, Kroos and Casemiro the best in Real Madrid's history?

Real Madrid played excellently against Roma on Wednesday night and, as is so often the case, their great performance was rooted in midfield.

Since Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro joined forces in Los Blancos' midfield in 2015, they've been almost unstoppable.

They may only have cost the club under 80 million euros in total, but they might go down as the best midfield in the capital city club's storied history.

They first played together on October 4, 2015, when Rafa Benitez was in charge for a Madrid derby that finished 1-1.

As for their first Champions League experience together, that came one month later as they took on and beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0.

The arrival of Zinedine Zidane and his consistent selection of the Croatian, German and Brazilian saw them reach another level and saw them go on to win the next three Champions League titles.

With Isco sometimes uniting with this midfield to provide an extra sprinkling of magic, it's difficult to see how any other midfield could be better than the current group.

They've dominated Europe for three seasons and their fourth has gotten off to a positive start too.
