Real Sociedad were looking to recover from their 5-2 defeat away at Sevilla last weekend when Levante came to Anoeta on Friday night, but the Basques could only draw 1-1 with Paco Lopez's side, an important result for Las Granotas.
La Real started the game as the better of the two sides and were able to take the lead in the 27th minute through Adnan Januzaj as he grabbed his first goal since April 2018.
The strike came about after Mikel Oyarzabal played a ball into the left channel for Theo Hernandez, and the Real Madrid loanee played a cross along the six-yard box for Januzaj to tap home from close range.
There was a debut in La Real's line-up too, with Ander Guevara making his first start for the side, the ninth player to do so this season.
Things changed after the half-time break, though, as Levante took advantage of a Real Sociedad side that seemed to have relaxed, especially with Las Granotas not having had a shot on target in the first half.
La Real striker Jon Bautista had the chance to create some breathing room for the home side in the 76th minute as he cut inside Rober Pier and his left-footed shot went just wide of the target.
Then, three minutes later, Levante capitalised by making it 1-1.
Borja Mayoral grabbed the goal, his third of the season, after a well worked corner kick. Jose Campana took a corner from the right-hand side and Mayoral used his nous in the box to evade his marker with some excellent movement, which enabled him to fire a shot past Geronimo Rulli. The Real Madrid loanee also scored at Anoeta last season with Los Blancos in a 3-1 victory.
Levante will be glad to have put their three-match losing run to an end as both sides remain in the same position in the table - 9th for La Real on 36 points, and 15th for Levante with 31 points.
