According to The Athletic, Florentino is expected to announce Konate's free transfer to Real Madrid on Thursday, local time.

This agreement will see 27-year-old Konate join Real Madrid on a free transfer, as his contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of June.
The announcement is expected to take place three days before the Real Madrid presidential election. Florentino personally announced the start of the election; he has served as Real Madrid president for a second time since 2009 and will now face a challenge from 37-year-old renewable energy entrepreneur Enrique Riquelme. Voting will take place on June 7, with approximately 100,000 Real Madrid members eligible to vote.
The Athletic reported on June 2 that Real Madrid was actively pursuing the defender, with center-back being one of the positions they hoped to strengthen.
Konate had been in long-term contract extension talks with Liverpool, with negotiations dating back to October 2024. He told reporters in April that he was "close" to reaching an agreement, but the two sides ultimately failed to finalize the extension, and Liverpool later confirmed his impending departure.
In a message to Liverpool fans, Konate said: "I am sad that I couldn't say goodbye to all of you in the last game. At that moment, I didn't know it would be the last time I would wear this jersey in front of you."
Konate stated: "This is not an easy goodbye, but it is time for new challenges and a new chapter."
Real Madrid had previously considered signing Konate, but they informed Liverpool late last year that they were no longer interested in him. Subsequently, with Alaba set to become a free agent and Militao recovering from a hamstring injury, Real Madrid rekindled their interest in signing a center-back.
Incoming head coach Jose Mourinho has been focused on bringing in a defender, and Real Madrid had already identified a center-back as a target before starting negotiations with Mourinho.
Konate joined Liverpool in 2021 from RB Leipzig when his £35 million release clause was activated. He became a regular starter in Liverpool's central defense alongside Van Dijk and made 183 appearances for the team.
In addition to Van Dijk, Liverpool's existing center-back options include Joe Gomez, who has missed 34 games due to injury over the past two seasons, and Giovanni Leoni, whose first season at Anfield ended prematurely in September due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. 20-year-old Jeremy Jacquet will join Liverpool from Rennes, a deal that was agreed in the winter transfer window this year for a transfer fee of £55 million, plus an additional £5 million in add-ons
