During the coronavirus lockdown that halted the 2019/20 season, all members of the Real Madrid squad agreed to take a pay cut of 10 percent... except for Gareth Bale.
Director general Jose Angel Sanchez explained the need for salary sacrifices to the players and Sergio Ramos was the mediator in negotiations, but Bale refused to accept the reduction.
That's according to Cadena SER, who are reporting that the Welshman said he wasn't willing to give up any of his pay after being advised by his representatives.
In addition to that 10 percent pay cut, the Real Madrid players agreed to forfeit their bonuses for winning LaLiga Santander. They also gave the provisional green light to a 20 percent reduction in pay in the case of the competition not being able to return.
