Sergio Ramos 'has until the end of March to sign contract extension'

Sergio Ramos reportedly has until the end of March to take up a contract extension with Real Madrid before it expires as speculation over his future continues.

The Madrid captain is out of contract in the summer and his time at the club has been cast into doubt for the first time since signing from Sevilla in 2005.

Marca report he has been offered a one-year extension with the option of a second with president Florentino Perez determined to tie him down.

But the report indicates the club need to know sooner rather than later about the 34-year-old so they can plan their summer transfer window accordingly.

It is believed Ramos and Perez have a good relationship, and the deal which looked unlikely in January now now appears to be on the cards.

The Spain international has been at the LaLiga giants for just under 16 years but that has been cast into doubt after struggling to reach an agreement for an extension in recent months.

The report also indicates Ramos too is keen to clear up the uncertainty over his future and next week could be all important in determining where that lies.

He has not played for Madrid since suffering a knee injury in mid-January.

Just like many clubs in Spain, Los Blancos have been hit hard by the financial impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, meaning they are no longer the giants in the transfer market they once were.

Ramos' central defensive partner Rafael Varane has also been the subject of speculation, with Sportsmail reporting last week that the club could be open to selling the £61million star.
