The list of problems grows for Diego Costa

  /  autty

Diego Costa has had more written about his indiscretions than his football actions in recent times and the forward's refusal to train with Atletico Madrid on Thursday has only added to that.

Atleti backed him when they brought him back for Chelsea, Diego Simeone gave him his full support, but with just five goals this season the Spain international hasn't delivered.

Things started well this term as he scored twice against Real Madrid in the European Super Cup, but things took a turn.

Beyond the injuries, Costa has largely disappointed. The problems worsened when he picked up a needless yellow card against Juventus that ruled him our of the second leg in Turin.

But the most serious was his red card at the Camp Nou after just 28 minutes. Costa launched a verbal attack on the referee, which resulted in an eight-match ban.

In what was an important game in the title race, he let his teammates and coach down.

Clemente Villaverde, club spokesperson, described his behaviour as "reprehensible and damaging to the club". Simeone came out in defence of his player, but it wasn't enough.

The 2014 Champions League final

A different kind of setback for the Brazilian-born player, Costa's Champions League dream ended after just eight minutes in 2014. After shining all season but struggling with his condition towards the end, Costa played from the start when he really shouldn't have and his day ended before ever starting.

Playing in the FA Cup against Everton, the forward bit Gareth Barry and racked up a 25,000 euros fine.

An inappropriate celebration

Diego Costa scored the second goal in a win over Getafe in his first LaLiga Santander game of the season. Celebrating by jumping into the stands, Costa was booked and then sent off, spoiling the day.

"I s*** on your w***e mother, I s*** on your w***e mother," he screamed at referee Gil Manzano. As much as he denies those words, the suspension stands and Costa's season is over.
