Valencia bow out of the Champions League with Manchester United victory

Despite sealing a 2-1 win over Manchester United on Wednesday evening, Valencia's European football in 2019 will be played in the Europa League as Los Che found themselves eliminated before the final group game.

When United were scheduled to arrive at the Mestalla in the sixth game of this season's Champions League, Valencia would have expected more to be riding on the game than was the reality on Wednesday evening.

Carlos Soler gave the LaLiga Santander side an early lead with just over a quarter of an hour played.

Marcelino's side's night got even better when Phil Jones turned into his own goal in comical fashion shortly after half time as he chased a ball towards his own goal and, for some reason, passed the ball beyond Sergio Romero into a vacant goal.

Marcus Rashford pulled one back for Jose Mourinho's side in the game's dying moments but it proved too little too late as Valencia held on for the points.
