Tevez reveals ex-Utd team-mate GAVE him Lamborghini after squad mocked his Audi

Carlos Tevez has revealed he was ridiculed at Manchester United for his car before team-mate Wayne Rooney stepped in to hand over the keys to a Lamborghini.

The striking pair linked-up at the Old Trafford side in the heart of a golden era at the end of Sir Alex Ferguson's reign, after Tevez joined in 2007.

In just two seasons, the pair amassed 72 goals between them in all competitions - winning the Champions League and back-to-back Premier League titles before Tevez made a shock switch to rivals Man City.

Rooney's generosity can't have hurt the new signing settle in, after he found himself the target of dressing room banter upon arriving from West Ham.

'At Manchester United training, players would turn up with a Ferrari or a Lamborghini,' Tevez told Marca.

'Everyone, even the worst player, would have a Ferrari.

'I turned up in the Audi that the club gave you and they all bugged me about it, as if it was a Fiat 600.

'I spoke to Rooney and, the crazy guy that he is, he told me 'take the Lamborghini'.

'I went, without registering, around Manchester with this car, he gave it to me.'

Tevez - now playing for Boca Juniors in his homeland - played also paid tribute to his former strike partner Rooney, who have taken up a player/coach role at Derby.

Among stiff competitions for attacking places at the dominant English side - with Cristiano Ronaldo, Dimitar Berbatov and Nani also in the squad - the pair were key fixtures, despite their similar attributes.

'I identified a lot with him because of where he came from, a poor area of Liverpool,' Tevez added.

'He always fought for the ball as if it were his last, the same way I played.

'I saw myself reflected in him.'
