Eto'o: Inter will win the Scudetto, they get respect after so many highs & lows

Treble-winner Samuel Eto’o believes Inter will win the Scudetto this season, but above all Antonio Conte ensured the Nerazzurri are “getting the respect they deserve again.”

The San Siro giants were beaten 2-1 by Lazio last week, falling into third place, but the Cameroon international is not going to change his mind.

“Inter will win the Scudetto,” Eto’o told Sky Sport Italia.

“Conte really has not changed. He is the same coach we saw at Juventus or Chelsea, no more and no less, that is his idea of football. I am glad, because after so many highs and lows, at this moment Inter are getting the respect they deserve again.”

They won the Treble under Jose Mourinho in 2009-10, where Eto’o was made to play in an unusual wide role.

“We were playing not for us, but for the millions of Inter fans. Jose [Mourinho] told us we had to put ourselves to work for the team and so we did what we had to. When we won the Champions League Final, the gates of Heaven opened up to us.

“What we achieved with Inter was unique and can never be repeated, but above all I am happy that we all still remain in contact, which is rare in football. It means our experience together went beyond those matches.”

Eto’o was asked if he ever had the opportunity to come back to Inter and confirmed there were some discussions.

“Just before I went to Sampdoria, I did ask Inter, but I knew it was unlikely. I would’ve still been in a condition to play, but it didn’t annoy me.”
