New City signing Erling Haaland has only needed eight Premier League games to score three hat-tricks.
Former Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero has the most hat-tricks in Premier League history, netting 12 triples during his decade with the club.
New City signing Erling Haaland has only needed eight Premier League games to score three hat-tricks. On Sunday, in the Manchester derby, he scored his third consecutive hat-trick at the Etihad as City defeated their neighbours 6-3, becoming the first Premier League player to score a hat-trick in three consecutive home league matches.
Most hat-tricks in a Premier League season
It took Michael Owen 48 games to score three hat-tricks, the league’s previous record, but Haaland has somehow managed to do it in just eight games.
Alan Shearer is the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer with a phenomenal 260 goals. Newcastle legend Shearer has 11 Premier League hat-tricks, while former Liverpool talisman Robbie Fowler is third on the all-time list with nine.
It’s only early October and Haaland already has three hat-tricks to his name. With just eight league games played, he has 30 games left this season, provided he plays in every fixture. Pep Guardiola likes to rotate and is not afraid to play with a false nine so it’s likely that Haaland will be rested at several stages of the season.
In 1995-96, Shearer scored a record five Premier League hat-tricks for Blackburn Rovers. Harry Kane is second on the list, scoring four hat-tricks in the 2016-17 campaign. Agüero scored three hat-tricks in consecutive seasons from 2017-18 to 2018-19.
The good news for City is that Haaland is not going to the World Cup this winter, meaning he’ll be able to enjoy a mid-season break. If he can avoid injury, he will be in contention to break the single-season hat-trick record.
