Inzaghi: 'Lazio regrets in Dortmund'

Simone Inzaghi has ‘regrets’ that Lazio still haven’t secured Champions League last 16 qualification and ‘deserved more’ against Borussia Dortmund.

Ciro Immobile’s penalty cancelled out an opener from Raphael Guerreiro on the stroke of half-time for the 1-1 draw.

“Without doubt there are regrets, as we are unbeaten, but there were some draws we felt that we could’ve turned into victories,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia

“It was a good performance, a show of character, and I think in the second half especially we probably deserved more. I am pleased to have played so well against such a strong side as Borussia Dortmund on their own turf.”

Lazio will reach the Champions League final 16 if they avoid defeat against Club Brugge at the Stadio Olimpico.

“Our two draws in St Petersburg and Bruges were in an emergency situation, so those were very important points. We had hoped that nine points would be enough to secure qualification, something Lazio have been waiting for over 20 years.

“Now we’ll have one more game to get the result we need. We’d been working to get into the Champions League for almost five years, had some problems with COVID and injuries too, and the step up in quality is seeing a team that puts this aside for four days to focus on Serie A and Spezia.

“After that, we have two-and-a-half days to prepare another very important match against Bruges.”
