The Germany international is set to undergo further tests and could be facing a spell on the sidelines.

Juventus have confirmed that Emre Can will undergo tests and faces a spell on the sidelines after being diagnosed with a thyroid nodule that may require surgery.

Can has made 10 appearances for Juventus so far this season since joining from Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer.

The Germany international was an unused substitute in Juventus’ 1-1 draw against Genoa on Saturday but could now be facing a spell on the sidelines.

“Emre Can will undergo clinical tests and investigations for a thyroid nodule that could also require surgical treatment,” read a statement released on Juventus’ official website.

It appears likely that Can will miss Wednesday’s Champions League tie against Manchester Utd but the extent of his absence remains to be seen.

The midfielder started his professional career with Bayern Munich, making his debut for the club's first team in 2013.

A spell at Bayern Leverkusen then beckoned, before earning a move to Liverpool in the summer of 2014.

Can went on to make 166 appearances at the Anfield club, scoring 14 goals, but he opted out of renewing his link with the Reds and was released at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

He has made a solid start to life at Juve, with Saturday's match the first time he has sat out a Serie A match since signing for the club.

Uruguay international Rodrigo Bentancur, who has alternated the holding position with Can so far this season, is now set to take on a pivotal role with Juve if his team-mate needs an extended leave of absence.
