Legendary goalkeeper Zoff: Italy have a good chance of winning Euro 2020

Dino Zoff believes Roberto Mancini's Italy can win Euro 2020, making up for past failures, while Gianluigi Donnarumma and Alex Meret are the future of Italian goalkeeping.

The Azzurri legend was speaking to the Corriere dello Sport on a number of topics, and believes that Italy should've won more European Championships than their lone 1968 title.

"We could've won two or maybe even three. The tournament in 1980 came after the Totonero scandal and that atmosphere affected us. Then when I was CT of the national side, we lost to the golden goal against France in 2000."

Mancini's Italy have won early plaudits for their style of play and have a 100% record going into the last group game of the campaign, so Zoff thinks that they have a good chance of winning Euro 2020.

"This Italy can do it. They're strong and are playing well. I like this team, the coach is good, the numbers are good and the victories aren't lacking."

Zoff sees a battle between Milan's Gigio Donnarumma and Napoli's Alex Meret for the role of Italy's No 1 over the next several years.

"Gigio is strong, very strong. And he can still improve. He will compete with Meret until the end. At the moment I would give the advantage to the Milanista. Meret however has great quality and I wish him a long and good career."

Zoff then spoke about his old side Juventus, and their chances of winning the Champions League this season.

"Juve are by far the favourites [for Serie A], as they have more than just a great starting XI. Inter are doing well, but I don't know if it will be enough.

"I think the Bianconeri have a good chance of winning the Champions League this season, too. There are problems with the Spanish sides, the Germans also. The English teams and Paris-Saint Germain remain at a high level, but Juve are there too."
