Mauricio Pochettino: Man Utd fans want Erik ten Hag to take Old Trafford job instead of PSG boss

Manchester United fans are urging the club to forget Mauricio Pochettino and instead appoint Erik ten Hag as their next manager amid reports suggesting they are on 'red alert' over the PSG boss.

Pochettino has long been linked with a move to United, having impressed Old Trafford chiefs during his previous six-year stint in England with Southampton and Tottenham.

He has spent the last 13 months in charge of PSG, winning 44 of his 66 games in charge so far and establishing an 11-point lead at the Ligue 1 summit this season.

However, following their shock French Cup exit against Nice on Monday, Le Parisien are reporting that Pochettino's future at the Parc des Princes is uncertain.

Should they fail to get past Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16 - with the all-important second leg to come on March 9 - it is believed the Argentine could be dismissed by PSG officials before the end of the season.

And United, who are still on the hunt for a new permanent manager after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, are understood to be keeping tabs on Pochettino's situation.

Yet these reports have not gone down well with the Red Devils faithful, who would rather see Ajax boss Ten Hag take over as their new manager this summer.

One United fan wrote on Twitter: 'I really hope it’s not Poch, man. Ten Hag has done brilliantly with that young Ajax squad. Imagine what he can do with Uniteds’ youngsters.'

Another commented: 'After everything the last manager put us through the fans deserve the best manager available and imo that’s not Poch. I think most fans want Ten Hag, I do anyway.'

'Taking Poch and letting Ten Hag replace Pep [Guardiola] at [Manchester] City will be another big wrong decision by Man Utd,' a third insisted.

A fourth pleaded with the club: 'I’m begging Man United. Please no Poch, get me Erik Ten hag'.

While one came to this brutal conclusion: 'If we dare appoint Poch over Ten Hag I will give up on this football club. It'll be the final nail in the "Manchester United have no ambition to ever win anything ever again" coffin.'

Ten Hag has enjoyed great success since joining Ajax in 2017, winning two Eredivisie titles, as many KNVB Cups and reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.

The Dutchman has also helped develop a number of top young players in his time at Ajax, including Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Donny van de Beek.
