SPAL boss Leonardo Semplici has backed his side to preserve their Serie A status for another season. “We’re masters of our own destiny.”
Five defeats in six games have left SPAL just two points above the drop zone, but they beat Saturday’s opponents Roma 2-0 at the Olimpico earlier in the campaign.
“We’re masters of our own destiny. We were in a more difficult situation last season,” Semplici said at a Press conference.
“Our first game against them was a historic win for us, but in terms of performance it was certainly not among our best.
“For our part there must be great intensity. At San Siro against Inter we played in a certain way for the first hour, but after that we weren’t able to react like we could’ve and should’ve.
“The fact that we’ve always had a little leeway over the relegation places indicates we’ve always tried to maintain a certain level in our play.
“It’s clear that from here to the end of the season, we’ll have to try to pick up points against all our opponents.”
Midfielder Mattia Valoti is suspended for the trip to the Olimpico, but the Biancazzurri have Italy wingback Manuel Lazzari back from injury.
“He’s getting there,” explained the Coach.
“He’s not at the top of his game because his injuries have affected him, but we all know his quality and what he gives us. He’s available and we’ll see how we can use him.”
