10 players Arsenal linked with in January that could make a summer transfer move

Arsenal were linked with a number of players during the January transfer window. However, money was tight at the Emirates and head coach Unai Emery could only deal in loans.

Denis Suarez was the only player to come through the doors, but his loan spell has been something of a failure so far, with the Spaniard managing just 67 minutes of Premier League action.

The transfer budget in the summer is expected to be low again, although if Arsenal finish in the top four it could be significantly higher, given the revenues from the Champions League.

So who were the Gunners linked with in the summer, and could they return with a transfer proposal for those players this summer?

Keylor Navas

With Petr Cech retiring at the end of the season, there will be plenty of speculation surrounding a move for a new goalkeeper to fill the void.

Navas was linked with a move to the Emirates in January, however, Emery moved to quash that speculation by insisting he was "very happy" with the standard of goalkeeper he had at his disposal.

Navas had dropped out of favour at Real Madrid under Santiago Solari, with Thibaut Courtois favoured, but since Zinedine Zidane's return the Costa Rican has become first choice again.

Christopher Nkunku

Arsenal were extremely hopeful of getting a deal over the line in January for the winger.

But that never came off.

Paris Saint-Germain appeared happy to let Nkunku go if they could bring another midfielder in, but only Leandro Paredes, a defensive midfielder, joined.

Nkunku has since played six of the 11 Ligue Un games PSG have had since the close of the January window, scoring twice.

Ivan Perisic

Perisic was a late January transfer window target, although the Gunners were not the only ones looking at him.

A previous Manchester United target, the Croatian also attracted the attention of north London rivals Tottenham and was understood to have handed in a transfer request at Inter Milan in January.

Perisic wanted to leave, but a deal could not be done.

The links will surface again, although it is Spurs who are the bookmakers' favourites to sign him this summer.

Ever Banega

A player Arsenal will consistently be linked with now Emery is their boss.

Before the January window opened, the Gunners were said to be on the verge of completing an £18million deal for the midfielder after his agent 'flew to London' for talks.

It did not happen though, with Banega happy to stay in Andalusia, but Banega's past relationship with Emery is sure to fire up the rumours once more this summer.

Pablo Fornals

In November Arsenal were linked with a move for the Spaniard, amid rumours he could be a replacement for Mohamed Elneny.

The report stated that Emery was hoping to raise £15million from the sale of Elneny and then use the funds to help activate the £17.8million release clause in Pablo Fornals' contract at Villarreal.

Another move that looked likely for a time, but went cold.

Another attacking midfielder that would be of interest to Emery this summer.

Nicolas Pepe

A new winger was a top priority for Emery in the summer.

And Pepe was high on the list of new signings, seen as the most likely alternative to the very expensive Ousmane Dembele.

However, Lille were requesting in the region of £70million to let him go, a price tag that Arsenal were never going to get near and are unlikely to get near this summer either.

Adrien Rabiot

The player that has been linked with almost every big six club in England.

The Frenchman will be on the move in the summer, having failed to agree a new contract with PSG and is therefore available on a free transfer.

That will interest Emery, and their close personal relationship from their time at the Parc des Princes could also help the Gunners' close out a deal for the 24-year-old.

But they will face competition from elsewhere, not just in England, to get a deal done.

James Rodriguez

There were shock links with James Rodriguez late in the January transfer window.

The Colombian is currently on loan at Bayern Munich for two years from Real Madrid and that loan spell bring about its own problems.

The ball if firmly in Bayern's court and if they want to keep him for the duration of his loan spell, Rodriguez will not be going anywhere.

Isco

This was a rumour which started when questions over Mesut Ozil's future began and there had been suggestions that the Gunners could look to include the German in a swap deal for the Real Madrid star.

Isco had not been a regular at the Bernabeu under Santiago Solari, bringing his future under the microscope.

However, Isco has come back into favour since Zidane's return and a move away from Spain looks highly unlikely.

Yannick Carrasco

This one was a strange one in January.

That turned out to be the case, but Carrasco is keen on a return to Europe from China and a summer deal could take place.

Arsenal are short of attacking options and Carrasco would fit the bill for Emery.
