Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is close to signing a new five-year deal.

According to ECHO, the discussions are at an advanced stage with the 20-year-old defender, who is set to commit his future to the Reds until the summer of 2024.

It's reward for the remarkable progress Alexander-Arnold has made under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp since he signed his last contract in July 2017.

Since then the Academy graduate has firmly established himself as the club's first choice right-back.

He played a big part in Liverpool's run to last season's Champions League final and has been equally influential in the Reds' current pursuit of the Premier League title.

Alexander-Arnold, who has already made 67 first-team appearances, played for England at last summer's World Cup finals in Russia.

He will become the latest key player to commit his long-term future to the Reds.

Andy Robertson penned a new five-year contract earlier this week - following in the footsteps of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane and Joe Gomez.

Alexander-Arnold will miss Saturday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Anfield due to a knee injury he suffered against Brighton last weekend.

Initially, the Reds feared he would be sidelined for a month but he has responded well to treatment and the outlook is now more positive.

Alexander-Arnold has a chance of being fit for Liverpool's next game against Leicester City at Anfield on January 30.
