Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata is reportedly being considered as a genuine striker option for Manchester United.

The Red Devils are desperately trying to sign a new attacker following the exits of Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard and the potential exit of Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial.

The Portuguese superstar is believed to have submitted a transfer request in order to force a move away from Old Trafford, despite new manager Erik ten Hag suggesting that the former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar is still in his plans.

Martial spent the second half of last season on loan at Sevilla and is still being linked with a permanent exit from the club, even after an impressive pre-season.

There are also question marks on the future of Marcus Rashford, who has been attracting interest from French giants PSG, although no move appears to be close at this stage.

This has led to the club trying to sign new attackers in recent weeks, with a high-profile move for Bologna and former West Ham United striker Marko Arnautovic being ruled out after backlash from the fans.

United have now moved on from the veteran Austrian and, according to The Athletic are considering Morata as 'a genuine possibility' to solve their striker problems.

The report says that United have already held talks with Atletico Madrid and have been told that the former Real Madrid man could cost nearly £30million in order to pull him away from the Spanish capital.

The 29-year-old is no stranger to the Premier League, having made 47 appearances in the competition for Chelsea, scoring 16 goals and assisting six in the process.

For the last two seasons, the 29-year-old has been playing for Juventus and has been a consistent goalscorer in Serie A, finding the net 20 times in 67 games for the Turin-based side.

United have also been linked with moves for former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and PSG striker Mauro Icardi, but the report has played down those reports, citing that the players would bring 'excessive baggage' with them to Old Trafford.

Another player United were linked with was Benjamin Sesko but the club failed to agree a deal with Red Bull Salzburg, leading to the promising Slovenian agreeing to join RB Leipzig in 2023.
