Cavani, Giroud... 5 strikers that Man Utd could sign to deputise for Rashford

Despite losing 2-0 to Liverpool on Sunday, the worse news for Manchester United came mid-way through the second half when it emerged that Marcus Rashford had suffered a double stress-fracture in his back and would be out for around two months.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since spoke of the virtues of finding internal solutions to the injury crisis, with Mason Greenwood and Juan Mata likely to be used more in the coming weeks, yet there are still five players who the club could target to help ease them through to the end of the season.

It's incredibly unlikely Manchester United will be able to bring in attacker, and have shown little public appetite to do so in the wake of Rashford's injury, yet they would be well served to at least look at some of the players on the market.

Edinson Cavani:

The Uruguayan has stated his desire to leave Paris Saint-Germain and join Atletico Madrid, yet with Los Colchoneros having made no headway with sales to free up funds, the former Napoli goalscorer is attracting Premier League interest.

Cavani is a proven goalscorer and would give United a different option, but such is his desire to join Atletico, this is pretty much a non-starter.

Olivier Giroud:

Chelsea's wantaway forward had been close to Inter, yet as long as that deal hasn't been rubber stamped there is always a chance another club to swoop in.

He has Premier League experience and would most of all be incredibly cost-effective, something which appeals to Manchester United's hierarchy.

However, Chelsea would be uneasy with potentially strengthening one of their biggest rivals for fourth place this term.

Krzysztof Piatek:

Now, if any of these names actually had a realistic chance of arriving at Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window, then the Polish international is that individual.

Manchester United asked AC Milan to keep them abreast of the situation involving Piatek once Zlatan Ibrahimovic's arrival at the Stadio San Siro put the former Genoa goalscorer on the market.

Many teams are interested in a player who can score goals with ease but has lost his confidence. Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa had been linked but he is still yet to move.

Fernando Llorente:

The Spaniard has been earmarked with a return to Tottenham Hotspur to deputise for the injured Harry Kane, but he would also help Manchester United and knows the Premier League well.

Luka Jovic:

Real Madrid signed the 22-year-old as the heir-apparent to Karim Benzema, yet the Serbian has not featured as much as he would have liked this season.

Zinedine Zidane hasn't trusted him and it's not impossible to see him placed on the loan market.

Being able to recapture his form at such a big club as United wouldn't be a disaster for the former Eintracht Frankfurt player, however Real Madrid as a club are still betting on him.
