Half Man Utd fans identify Maddison as No.1 target in online poll

Manchester United fans want the club to prioritise the signing of James Maddison over the likes of Jadon Sancho and Erling Braut Haaland.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that the club could make two January signings, though players of Maddison's calibre of unlikely to be among them due to the nature of the mid-season market and the club may have to wait until next summer.

"Transfers, we always look at the long-term [to] look at players," said Solskjaer earlier this month.

"It might be none, might be one, might be two in January, but it's always the summer window that's the big one and you can't do too many good deals in January."

Manchester Evening News Sport ran a poll asking United fans to pick between three of the higher profile names being touted for a United move. MEN Sport understands the Leicester playmaker is a United target and it appears many fans are enthusiastic about the England international.

The poll asked: "Which one of these players would you rather Manchester United sign?" with Maddison, Sancho and Haaland as the options.

And of 3,154 respondents, 49 per cent voted for Maddison. His England teammate, Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho, gained 30 per cent of the vote, while RB Salzburg striker Haaland — who played under Solskjaer during their time at Norwegian club Molde — got just 21 per cent.

It remains to be seen whether United will get any of their top targets in the January window, with the club keen on strengthening in central midfield, attacking midfield and across the front line, following the recent departures of Romelu Lukaku and Ander Herrera.
