Liverpool draw up three-man shortlist of possible replacements for Wijnaldum

Liverpool have reportedly identified three midfielders they are interested in as possible replacements for Georginio Wijnaldum this summer.

The Dutchman looks set to leave Anfield on a free transfer at the end of the season after failing to agree terms on a new contract.

He has been a key figure in Liverpool's rise to the summit of domestic and European football under Jurgen Klopp since joining from Newcastle but looks likely to depart with a host of European heavyweights interested.

Barcelona, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are all said to be keen on the 30-year-old, who would represent a low cost, excellent piece of business for one of those clubs.

Klopp will need to enter the transfer market for a replacement once Wijnaldum leaves and Goal has claimed Florian Neuhaus, Houssem Aouar and Yves Bissouma are all under consideration.

Borussia Monchengladbach star Neuhaus has won plenty of plaudits this season after an excellent breakthrough campaign under Marco Rose.

The 23-year-old, who has a release clause of £35million in his contract, has also attracted the attention of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, as well as Bayern Munich, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund.

Lyon's Aouar is another player with admirers across the continent. The Frenchman was particularly close to joining Arsenal last summer but the Gunners opted to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid instead.

Aouar has been linked with a move away from Lyon for numerous transfer windows but a deal has always failed to materialise.

Like they did with Wijnaldum, Liverpool could turn their search for his replacement to a player in the Premier League in Brighton's Bissouma.

The 24-year-old is attracting interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and even Real Madrid.

Seagulls boss Graham Potter admitted recently he is capable of playing in the Champions League and conceded his time at Brighton is probably coming to an end.

With plenty of Premier League experience, Bissouma could be a ready-made replacement and may not command as greater fee as the other two targets.

Wijnaldum will not be the only big-name exit from Anfield this summer with the likes of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri both expected to leave to free up transfer funds.
