Liverpool transfer news: Reds 'fail in £61m bid for Portuguese wonderkid'

Liverpool have had a quiet transfer window so far - but that could be about to change after reports of an huge bid for Benfica wonderkid.

Rumours suggest the Reds have submitted a massive £61m offer to the Portuguese club for 19-year-old starlet Joao Felix.

The reports have come somewhat out of the blue but will have Liverpool fans excited, even though Benfica look set to reject their initial bid.

Meanwhile, manager Jurgen Klopp has discussed their transfer vision for the future in his latest press conference whilst rumours linking Adam Lallana with a move to Scotland have been revived.

Liverpool fail in audacious bid

Liverpool have reportedly had an audacious £61 million bid for attacking midfielder Joao Felix turned down by Benfica.

Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha report via Talksport that the Reds made a move for the 19-year-old wonderkid, but have failed in their approach.

The move would have made Felix Liverpool's third most-expensive signing ever, after Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson.

However the Merseyside club were some way off of Benfica's valuation of Felix, who has a £105m buyout clause with the club.

Felix only signed a new deal with the Primeira Liga side recently, after being rewarded for his excellent form.

Klopp talks transfer vision

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken out on their long-term transfer vision - and praised their owners for backing his approach.

“That is what our owners gave us the opportunity to do,” Klopp said.

“Buying new players is expensive, signing new players is expensive, extending contracts with top players is expensive. That's how it is.

“For that you need the money side of life. It is all good. On the other side, other clubs pay good money as well.

“If they (the players) didn’t believe in the project and wouldn’t enjoy living and working here then they wouldn’t stay.

“Keeping all of them together would mean we would have a better chance of making the next step next season than we had in previous years. But last year we already felt comfortable and could bring in the boys without losing players in the summer.”

Ferguson revives Lallana rumours

England international Adam Lallana has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield.

It has led to links with a temporary switch to Rangers to reunite with Reds legend Steven Gerrard, although Gerrard recently denied those rumours.

However, Gers legend Barry Ferguson has backed the club to complete the impressive coup of signing Lallana.

He said on PLZ Soccer: “See if this was six, eight weeks ago?

“I know Defoe was mentioned and obviously Davis, these two signings have happened, and now I’m beginning to believe Adam Lallana.

“I think he’s a top, top player. If Rangers get him, they’ve got an even better chance to snatch the title away from Celtic.

“But he is a top, top player. If Rangers pull that off, I’ll need to give them a handshake.”
