Liverpool transfer round-up: Chiesa bid rejected as Phillips draws suitors

Having opened the window by moving quickly to sign Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, Liverpool’s summer transfer business has slowed down somewhat.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is understood to be targeting new signings in the attacking positions and in midfield as he looks to return his side to Premier League title contention.

In what was a down year for Liverpool’s form, the back-ups in Klopp’s squad proved to be not up to the task, with several at risk of being moved on.

The players who have spent recent years out on loan also appear likely to be leaving Anfield, with Klopp replacing them with new academy graduates.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Liverpool transfer news…

Juventus reject Cheisa bid

Juventus have reportedly rejected an £86million bid from Liverpool for Italian international attacker Federico Chiesa.

The 23-year-old is technically on loan from Fiorentina at the Allianz Stadium, but an obligation to buy clause means that Juve control his future.

He impressed in his first season at Turin, scoring 15 goals and notching 11 assists in all competitions for his club, before being a regular in the Italy team which won Euro 2020.

His exploits at that tournament, coupled with his performances in Serie A attracted the eye of Liverpool, who are seeking to upgrade their attacking options.

Though Chiesa appears to be their top target, the Reds have some work to do before signing him, with La Repubblica reporting Juve have rejected their opening offer of £86m.

The Italian newspaper goes on to state that returning manager Massimiliano Allegri views Chiesa as 'non-transferable', an opinion that has received the backing of club president Andrea Agnelli.

Wilson edges closer to exit

Harry Wilson is on the verge of leaving Liverpool for Championship side Fulham on a permanent transfer.

Wilson has spent the last few seasons on loan at a variety of second tier clubs, including Derby County and Cardiff City, as well as a one-year stay at Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The winger scored seven goals and provided 11 assists for the Bluebirds last term and has been training with the senior side this pre-season.

But a route into Jurgen Klopp’s plans is blocked, with the Reds academy graduate having made only two senior appearances so far in his Liverpool career.

With Klopp requiring funds for signings, Wilson was likely to leave this summer and he has now left Liverpool’s Austrian training camp to complete his move to the Cottagers.

According to Sky Sports, the 24-year-old is now undergoing his medical at Craven Cottage, where he will become Marco Silva’s first signing as Fulham boss.

Phillips at centre of transfer chase

Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips is at the centre of a transfer race reportedly involving at least five clubs.

Amid an injury crisis in defence, Phillips enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season, making 20 appearances in all competitions.

That included five successive Premier League starts at the end of the season as the Reds went unbeaten to claim a top four finish.

But with Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip returning from injury and Ibrahima Konate having been signed from RB Leipzig, Phillips has fallen far down the pecking order.

Jurgen Klopp is set to sanction a departure for the 24-year-old, with The Athletic reporting Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham have joined Burnley, Brighton and Newcastle in the race to sign him.

It is stated though that any potential exit is not imminent, highlighted by his substitute appearance in the win over Mainz on Friday.
