Manchester United have contacted Monaco over a deal to sign Benoit Badiashile as interest in the 19-year-old defender hots up with a host of top European clubs interested in the Frenchman.

United are in the market for a new centre half to partner £80m signing Harry Maguire, who has on occasion looked suspect when having to defend against pacey strikers.

Victor Lindelof is the Englishman's current defensive partner, but it is believed that United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for a new central defender with the pace to cover the United captain.

And Badiashile is an option that is of interest to United, and the club has made contact with their French counterparts over a move, according to TF1. The 19-year-old has broken into the Monaco side and looks ready-made for a career at the top of the game.

But they'll face heavy competition for the youngster, with German outfit Bayer Leverkusen believed to have held talks with the club for the past four weeks in a bid to strike a deal.

Reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid are also interested in the France youth international, although they aren't as committed as Leverkusen at this stage.

Ligue 1 side Monaco are looking for an offer of approximately £25m to part ways with the young defender.

It would appear that United are looking to the French league for their new centre half, with Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes an option for the Red Devils.

United have been linked with the £27m man, but again face competition in the form of FA Cup winners Arsenal and Everton.
