Man Utd transfer news: Solskjaer gives midfield update plus club resist interest

  /  autty

Manchester United have never been far from the headlines this transfer window - but the major news over the past 24 hours has surrounded existing members of their squad.

One of their key players, Anthony Martial, looks set to commit his long-term future to Old Trafford in a big money deal, whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an update on two midfielders.

The club remain on the lookout for additions, however, and there are reports that a move for a Premier League rival could well be rebuffed.

With the clock ticking in the January window, we are still waiting for the rumours swirling around Old Trafford to materialise into a potentially hectic few days.

Palace resist Wan-Bissaka interest

Crystal Palace will resist any Manchester United move for their right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Mirror Sport revealed this week that United want to lure the highly-rated 21-year-old to Old Trafford .

Manchester City and Chelsea are also said to be interested in the full-back, who only signed a new deal at Selhurst Park last April.

But Palace are in no mood to let Wan-Bissaka go and the Evening Standard say they will fight all the way to keep him in south London.

Fellaini transfer off

Marouane Fellaini has been sidelined for up to four weeks - ruling him out of a January move from Manchester United .

United were ready to listen to offers for Fellaini, who has played just 31 minutes in seven games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

AC Milan and Porto were linked with a move for the 31-year-old, but a calf injury has ruled the midfielder out for up to a month, meaning the Belgium international is staying put at United.

“Fellaini is the long-term one that’s out,” said Solskjaer.

The news will have a knock-on effect for midfielder Scott McTominay, who had been linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford.

“Scott is working hard. He is a young boy I believe in. We are working on his contract,” Solskjaer commented.

“You know with injuries, with Fellaini as well and the squad we have, I am not too sure we are going to see any movement at all.”

Martial close to new deal

Manchester United are close to tying striker Anthony Martial down to a new five-year contract with the club.

The Frenchman has reached an agreement in principle which will keep him at United until 2024.

Martial now looks set to put pen to paper after his agent Philippe Lamboley confirmed the news.

It completes a remarkable turnaround for Martial, who looked to be heading out of the exit door at Old Trafford just a few months ago.

Talks between United and the 23-year-old had broken down, with Martial rejecting an offer in October.
