Phil Neville's son Harvey has signed his first professional deal with Manchester United - after starting his development with rivals City.

Neville - a defender like his dad Phil and Uncle Gary - has penned a one-year deal with the Red Devils after turning 18.

The teenager broke the news on his Instagram account, writing: "Proud to have signed my first professional contract with @manchesterunited.

"Thank you to all my family and coaches for their support."

And dad Phil was one of the first to respond on the social media site, posting red, white and black circles - representing United's colours - and a heart emoji.

Neville will now work towards earning a place in United's under-23s - and ultimately will be looking to emulate his famous dad and uncle by breaking into the first-team squad.

He has a lot to live up to, with his dad having forged a top-level career for United, Everton and England.

Uncle Gary, meanwhile, spent his entire playing career with the Red Devils and was England's first-choice right-back for a decade.

But it could have been a different story for Neville Jnr, who first joined neighbours Manchester City and then signed for Valencia's youth team when his dad was a coach there during his uncle's time as manager.

Harvey returned to United in 2018 and has impressed at Under-18s level in the academy.

He has been involved in the Republic of Ireland youth set-up rather than with England.

Like his dad, Harvey is versatile, having started out as a midfielder, before moving to right-back, where both Phil and Gary played.

Chelsea legend John Terry was also among those to praise him on his first pro deal, replying "congratulations" to his Instagram post.
