TRIPLE kill! Ramsey to pocket £300,000 per week at Juventus

Aaron Ramsey will join Juventus next season on a four-year contract worth £300,000 a week, making him among the best-paid British footballers.

The 28-year-old midfielder signed the paperwork on Sunday and will complete a free transfer from Arsenal after 11 years at the London club. Ramsey was eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs this month because he is out of contract in the summer. There is believed to be no signing-on fee in his deal but the total value of the contract is about £62 million.

Of the other British players to have made big moves abroad, Gareth Bale, Ramsey’s Wales team-mate, earns £350,000 a week after tax at Real Madrid while Wayne Rooney earns about £90,000 a week at DC United, the Major League Soccer club in the United States. In England, Raheem Sterling signed a new five-year deal worth up to £300,000 a week at Manchester City in November and Harry Kane, the England captain, is paid £150,000 a week by Tottenham Hotspur, potentially rising to £200,000.

Ramsey has been able to command a similar wage because there will be no transfer fee paid for him. He turned 28 on Boxing Day and fits the Italian club’s recent model of recruiting big-name players on free transfers. They drafted in Sami Khedira from Real Madrid in 2015, Dani Alves from Barcelona a year later and Emre Can from Liverpool last summer.

Ramsey has started eight of his 19 league games this season, being used as an impact substitute by Unai Emery, the head coach. He was close to agreeing a new deal with Arsenal in the summer but the club withdrew their offer in September, citing football and financial reasons. Arsenal have handed out some lucrative contracts in the past year — including paying Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan a combined £530,000 a week — and that has already caused significant issues for Emery in this transfer window.
