Mark Noble will finish his career as a one-club man after West Ham triggered the option in their captain’s contract on Wednesday.

The Premier League club activated a one-year clause which means Noble is now contracted until 2021, when he plans to stop playing.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini was keen to see the deal done and Noble, 31, will look to move into coaching after hanging up his boots.

The midfielder debuted for the Hammers in 2004 and is now approaching his 450th appearance.

Speaking after the contract extension was exercised, he said: ‘It was an option in my contract that I signed a few years ago now, and it’s an extra year, which is fantastic for me and my family.

‘I’ve been at this club all my life so it takes me to the end of my career.

‘I’ve always said I wanted to be at this club and I think we’re moving in the right direction, so it was the right time to do it.’

Noble was 17 years old when he made his first appearance in a 2-0 League Cup win over Southend in August 2004.

He continued: ‘I hope that the club keeps moving in the right way and hopefully I can be a part of that.

‘I think there’s no better person than me at this club to know the morals and ensure the foundations are kept with the young players and staff members.’

A club statement confirmed: ‘West Ham United are delighted to confirm that the Club and Mark Noble have activated an option that will see the captain’s contract extended until 2021.’
