Wolves are in pole position to land Portuguese football's latest wonderkid Joao Felix.

The Black Country club will be ahead of the running should Benfica decide to cash in on their emerging talent.

Felix has broken into the first-team at the Stadium of Light and big things are predicted for the 19-year-old.

The youngster has already made the continent's biggest clubs sit up and take notice of his talent but Wolves' link-up with super-agent Jorge Mendes means they will be at the front of the queue.

Felix has a long-term contract to remain in the Portuguese capital until 2023 and won't come on the cheap.

But Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to press ahead with plans to improve his playing squad and Felix is bang in his sights.

The Portuguese was Mendes's first client and the tie-up between the two parties means that Wolves will have first refusal on any players over which the agent has direct control.

The question is whether they can persuade the player that they would be the perfect next step in his career, at a time when he can seemingly have his pick of Europe's elite.
