Chelsea transfer news: Kai Havertz has hinted at his desire to play for Bayern Munich but the German club have remained coy over a possible move
Chelsea star Kai Havertz has been closely linked with a return to Germany at Bayern Munich following a mixed spell in England since his 2020 transfer. Those rumours grew significant traction after Havertz's own comments during his two-week spell with the German national team on a possible move back to his home country that left Chelsea fans surprised.
"Bayern are generally a huge club that it's hard to say no to as a German player," the 23-year-old said, speaking to Sport Bild. "But my personal goal has always been to play abroad at some point. In England or Spain." Following on from that major transfer hint, Chelsea released on exclusive interview on their club website with Havertz, prior to their defeat at the hands of Aston Villa, which seemed to set the record straight.
"After bad times you’re going to see the sun again," he said. "Of course we lost some times, our table position is bad, but the fans can be excited for the next few months and years, and everything that happens, because we have bought some good-quality players and they are going to achieve some big things here."
"It’s been a hard season. Physically and mentally it’s been tough for everyone. We have a big competition, the Champions League, where we can achieve big things this year. The league is hard but still we want to get points and come into European business. We have big goals still and I’m ready for that."
Havertz was key to Graham Potter's mini-revival in February scoring two goals in the victories against Leeds, Borussia Dortmund and Leicester. The versatile attacker was also on target in the 2-2 draw against Everton, but struggled, like most of Chelsea's forwards, to have any lasting impact in the 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.
Despite struggling over the weekend, Havertz has proven he can be an important player to Chelsea and the immediate threat of losing him to Bayern should not be a concern to those in west London, following a claim made by the German club's CEO Oliver Kahn.
When asked about Havertz, he told BILD, via Twitter user @iMiaSanMia: "It doesn't make sense to mention it right now. As I said, our focus is fully on this season and not on future topics. We are not discussing new signings with Tuchel now”
Another game drawing a blank further hints at the importance of bringing a natural number nine to the club. Havertz has given it his best shot in what is a position that doesn't suit his strengths, but the Blues remain in desperate need of a striker.
Under a new manager in Potter, or perhaps someone else, Romelu Lukaku, who joined the club in 2019 for a fee just shy of £100m, could be given another chance especially after scoring four goals for Belgium in the international break. Alternatively, Napoli star Victor Osimhen seems to certainly be on the Blues' wish list, however given his importance to the Italian club they will likely demand upwards of £100m

the worst Chelsea will do is sell Kai Havertz . he is is not a number 9 . but is doing well. get a good number 9 and play him 8 . he will deliver. watch him in the national team. his a big player and has age in him. get a good manger to work with him please. the guy is good. I will advise you also bring back Lukaku. Chelsea need a kind of Lukaku figure in the team
