Manchester City ace Benjamin Mendy spots mascot who is his dead ringer

Manchester City left back Benjamin Mendy had to do a double take on Tuesday night after seeing his doppelganger holding hands with team-mate Ederson.

Mendy watched from home as City played out a 2-2 draw at Lyon in the Champions League and he spotted something amusing during the television broadcast.

The mascot who walked out alongside City goalkeeper Ederson was a dead ringer for Mendy, who took to Twitter to share his discovery.

Mendy tweeted on Wednesday: 'Couldn't play last night but still managed to enter the pitch as mascott (sic) with @edersonmoraes93. Boy looks so much like me I'm disturb (sic) #benjaminbutton'.

The France international did not feature against Lyon as he was recovering from surgery on his right knee.

Days earlier he had returned to Manchester after going under the knife in Barcelona.

Mendy's injury was sustained during City's 3-1 win over  rivals Manchester United earlier this month when he played the full 90 minutes but withdrew from the France squad the following day.

The 24-year-old was sent to be assessed by City's surgeon Dr Ramon Cugat in Barcelona and underwent surgery on the cartilage meniscus in his left knee.

It is highly unlikely that Mendy will play again this year, with his return date expected to be in February.
