On this day in 2013, Barca set a new record of the best first round in La Liga history
On 13 January 2013, after a 3-1 win over Malaga, Barca set a new record of the best first round in the history of La Liga (18 wins, 1 draw) with 55 points.
Lionel Messi scored in a ninth successive La Liga game as Barcelona won 3-1 at Malaga on Sunday to remain 11 points clear of Atletico Madrid and 18 in front of champions Real Madrid at that time.
On this day in 2008 - Nazario Ronaldo scored his last 2 goals for European club
The striker, who started his career in Brazil with Cruzeiro from 1993, moved to Europe in 1994 to play for PSV. He spent two seasons there, followed by stints with Barcelona (1996-97), Inter Milan (1997-2002), and Real Madrid (2002-06) before joining AC Milan in the summer of 2006. Along the way, he scored a total of 271 goals in Europe through the 2006-07 season, winning a European Golden Boot (1997) and two Ballons d'Or (1997, 2002).
By the 2007-08 season, however, injuries and weight problems limited his playing time and effectiveness, holding him to six appearances and only two goals. Both of those goals came against Napoli (15', 46'), as he combined with his Brazilian compatriots Kaká (68') and Alexandre Pato (74') to dismantle the visiting side. (Clarence Seedorf provided the remaining goal (31')).
Unfortunately for Ronaldo and Milan, he suffered a season-ending knee injury one month later against Livorno, making those two goals against Napoli his only competitive scores of the season. Milan then released him that summer.
The injury was potentially career-ending, but he underwent a successful rehabilitation and returned to the pitch in March 2009 for Corinthians and remained with the club until his retirement in February 2011.

On this day in 1907 - The first Turin Derby commenced
On 13 January 1907, Juventus and Torino contested the first Derby della Mole (Turin derby), with Torino winning 2-1.
The two clubs share a history, with Torino forming in 1906 as an offshoot of Juventus. When members of the older club, founded in 1897, considered moving the club out of Turin, a group that included Alfredo Dick created a new club to guarantee a continued presence in the city. The derby's name comes from Turin's landmark building, the Mole Antonelliana.
They met for the first time in the 1907 Italian Championship, playing a two-legged tie for the right to represent Piedmont in the final round. Torino hosted the first leg at the Velodrome Umberto I and won 2-1 with goals from Federico Ferrari Orsi and Hans Kempher (Juve's goal was scored from the penalty spot by Ernesto Borel). They then won the return leg 4-1 to advance 6-2 on aggregate, but lost the title to Milan.
On this day in 1992 - Atletico right-back Arias was born
Santiago Arias was a youth product of the Colombian football team La Equidad academy. After a successful spell at his club and internationally, he soon moved to Portugal to join the ranks of Lisbon team Sporting CP. In July 2013, Arias was linked to the club where both parties agreed on finalizing a deal. It was then reported that Arias signed a four-year contract and PSV paid Sporting €1.6 million for a package deal including fellow Sporting CP teammate Stijn Schaars.
On 31 July 2018, it was announced that Arias completed a transfer to Atlético Madrid for a reported transfer fee of £11 million. Upon his arrival, Arias was handed the number 4 shirt.
In September 2013, Arias received his first call up for Colombia's senior team to dispute the 2014 World Cup qualifying matches against Chile and Paraguay. He made his debut against Paraguay and played the entire match in a 1–2 away victory at Asunción. Arias was selected in the 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He started in all four of Colombia's matches as his nation was eliminated in the Round of 16 against England.
On this day in 2004 - England goalkeeper David Seaman announced his retirement
The former England international's decision came shortly after Man City revealed they had agreed a £2m deal for West Ham's David James.
The goalkeeper won the last of his 75 international caps against Macedonia back in October 2002.
Seaman played over 1,000 club and international matches and was awarded the MBE in 1996, the year he emerged as a hero for his penalty saves - most notably against Scotland and then Spain in a memorable shoot-out during the European Championship.
He suffered embarrassment notably during the 2002 World Cup when he allowed a Ronaldinho free-kick to drift over him as England slipped out of the finals after losing 2-1 to Brazil.
