England legend Gary Lineker expressed his 'bemusement' at Marcus Rashford's lack of action in the World Cup knockout stages after the 25-year-old continued his fine form for Manchester United on Wednesday night.
The attacker made a goal scoring return to Old Trafford as he capped a brilliant solo run to fire the Reds to a 2-0 win over Burnley in the Carabao Cup. Rashford scooped the man of the match award for his role in their League Cup progression as his resurgence under Erik ten Hag continues.
Prior to England's World Cup exit, the United attacker was one of the key threats for Gareth Southgate's side, chipping in with a goal against Iran plus a brace against Wales.
However, as they progressed to the latter stages, Rashford's role was limited to making an impact off the bench despite carrying his fine league form onto the international stage.
He was benched against Senegal and France in the last-16 and quarter-final respectively, which prompted bemusement from some at the time given how destructive he was against Wales in England's final group game.
He returned to action for Ten Hag's side in Wednesday's League Cup fixture and his performance prompted a reaction from Lineker.
Taking to Twitter, Lineker wrote: "Must say, the only thing that was a tad bemusing with England was not sticking with @MarcusRashford after his brilliance in the group stage."

It is Southgate's choice. He stood by his trusted players. if the team progressed, no one would blame him right?

Well in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking at this matter in a different way and without fighting and by trying to make it clear, and by considering each and every ones opinion, I honestly believe that I have completely forgotten what wanted to say.
