Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has tweeted his support of the UFC's three African champions after Francis Ngannou's triumph at UFC 260 on Saturday night.
Cameroonian heavyweight Ngannou beat Stipe Miocic with a decisive second-round knockout in Las Vegas at the weekend, avenging his loss to the same opponent in 2018.
In addition to Nigerian duo Kamaru Usman and Israel Adesanya, the welterweight and middleweight champion respectively, that makes Ngannou the third African champion in the organisation and ex-Blues star Drogba showed his support on social media.
Drogba, a Champions League winner with Chelsea in 2012, re-tweeted a UFC tweet about the three African champions saying: 'We are History, we are born Champions @ufc #proudafrica.'
Four-time Premier League winner Drogba, 43, retired in 2017 and is currently Vice President of the Peace and Sport organisation.
Ngannou's fight on Saturday night went only 52 seconds into the second round, with the first UFC heavyweight champion from Africa flattening Miocic twice in that round.
He felled his opponent with a savage left but Miocic found his feet before the 34-year-old found the American's throat with another blow and referee Herb Dean called time on the fight.
Speaking after the fight, Ngannou set his sights on a blockbuster showdown with iconic light-heavyweight fighter Jon Jones, who is moving up to heavyweight.
'For my opinion, Jon Jones is the greatest of all time from mixed martial arts,' Ngannou said.
'Him moving up is going to be a good thing. He's going to be a challenge that I will take and I will put it on record. It will be a very good thing on my resume.
'But this time he is gonna be the challenger, I am the champ. I am ready. Any time soon. Whenever they are ready, I am ready.'
Usman, who has a MMA record of 18-1, beat Gilbert Burns in his most recent fight last month while Adesanya lost for the first time in his career to Jan Błachowicz on March 6, thus losing the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship he also held.
