Cristian Romero has posted an intriguing message to his Instagram story just days after he responded to Antonio Conte's furious rant

Cristian Romero has aimed a sly dig at Tottenham in an Instagram post which announces his return to Argentina for the international break. The south American outfit will be eager to continue their rich vein of form as they take to the pitch for the first time since winning the World Cup in December.

The 24-year-old defender was integral towards his country's success, starting in all but one of Argentina's fixtures in Qatar. Romero will be eager to keep his place in Lionel Scaloni's side as they lock horns with Panama and Curacao on home turf later this month.

After a tough couple of weeks with Spurs, having been knocked out of both the Champions League and the FA Cup as well as Antonio Conte's latest attack, the Argentine appears to be enjoying his break from north London. On his Instagram story, Romero posted a collage of himself arriving for international duty with an intriguing caption.

"Que lindo estar de vuelta @afaseleccion donde realmente se disfruta," he wrote. When translated to English, it reads: "How nice to be back @afaseleccion where you really enjoy."

The Italian labelled his players 'unacceptable' and 'selfish' after the north Londoners let a 3-1 lead slip against Southampton. Conte claimed that there was a rotten culture at Tottenham and that the club needs to 'change this situation'.

"I love the players of my team, I love them and my club, I know that we are going to move forward and the time and work of all together will tell us where we will go. I’ve been here for a short time, but we’re going to be together to achieve important things, more years may pass but we’ll try."

Intentionally or not, Romero decided not to mention the coaching staff in his message and, instead, defended his teammates after Conte’s brutal rant.
